Cinematic Universe was so successful that the big competitor DC could not ignore it any longer Entertaining the world with several characters with single and combined appearances in live action movies. The fanbase of the heroes popular for decades were on board for sure but Marvel certainly did not expect to wrap the rest of the mainstream audience around their finger that easy. The only question was What about DC ComicsThe very same publisher who has at the very least two iconic comic heroes Superman and Batman. For a long time, it seemed as if the DC people simply did not get how huge that whole universe thing was. Instead, Christopher Nolan got to do his own and veery successful Batman thing and Zack Snyder was doing the same with Man of Steel which tells the origin story of the very popular Superman character. When DC announced numerous movies, that were obviously supposed to copy the Marvel concept, after Man of Steel, it seemed as if DC now wanted a piece of the pie as well. Since Nolans Batman trilogy was not supposed to be part of the DC universe, a new interpretation of the character including a new actor was required again. When it got out that Ben Affleck was supposed to be that new actor, both the fans and neutral audiences were sceptical. Back in 2. 00. 4, Affleck screwed up the Marvel character Daredevil so badly that a sequel was never an option. Also, that a duel between Batman and Superman was intended to be the plot of the first movie was considered an overhasty decision by DC and the producing studio Warner Bros. It did not seem to make any sense especially since there was not supposed to be yes, one might have gotten annoyed by Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel, and his big boss attitude regarding the content a strict observation of its content. As for its style, it is quite obvious that the story is to be continued. DC wants to be considered a dark, sinister and serious comic universe as opposed to the Marvel universe which is often considered a colorful and very mainstream universe. That definately works but the superheroes fighting each other until they eventually team up concept is not exactly new. For instance, the X Men do that as well. And considering that Bv. S has to introduce the new Batman who is quite well played by a slightly grey Affleck by the way on the one hand but create a conflict with Superman and introduce Wonder Woman in order to set the ground rules for the first Justice League movie AND also make sure that the enemyship becomes an allience on the other hand, Bv. S seems to contain too much story but also too little. The critics were not exactly enthusiastic and the box office result could have been better as well. With a budget of approx. Zack Snyder announced that this Extended Cut was his directors cut. And that seems plausible because the new footage does not look like footage put in afterwards to make a few more bucks with a longer version. On the contrary, some of that footage is quite a loss for the Theatrical Version that needed to be removed for its theatrical release to not push it because the Theatrical Version still runs approx. As one can see in the following comparison, the Extended Version is definately the better version. But there is a downside as well Narrativewise, the often criticized structure of the movie gets worse. Due to a lot extended footage during the first half, the actual story regarding Batman vs. Superman starts with the Capitol scene after almost 9. And as also criticized quite often, there is not enough time for the duel anymore before they team up to fight Doomsday in the big finale. Compared to the rest, the beginning is still too long but the warming phase is more satisfying and explained more reasonable in the Extended Cut. The scheme against Superman and Clark Kents investigation were just too short in the Theatrical Version. Subsequent things such as the short, rather mysterious introduction of Steppenwolf, which is obviously supposed to point to the Justice League, or the reversed censorings which got the Extended Cut the R Rating which it deserves by the way but without making it an incredibly brutal movie, make the result much more appealing. Lois explains his predecessor had barely spoken she liked him for it. A car with the Warlords goons drives up. They ask whether or not Lois and Jimmy have any technical devices on them and Lois says her contact confirmed taking pictures was allowed. Extended Scene with Alternate Footage. This sequence is mostly identical but there are a few extended scenes every now and then probably to save some time. After KGBeast destroys his equipment and finds the GPS tracker, Jimmy is being made as a spy. In between, there is additional footage in the Extended Cut. During the interview, Lois says the US government had acted neutrally in their country but the General responds that nobody ever acted neutrally. When the GPS tracker is found in Jimmys stuff, the General accuses Lois of having lead the CIA to them at first. Being completely surprised about that development, Lois denies everything and explains Jimmy was just a photographer. When Jimmy speaks to the General in his language, he says there were solutions and he had been sent to make him an offer. His death is both versions. Extended Cut 4. 1. Additional Scene.
